What's KANDAMYOUJIN?

THE HISTORY OF EDO-SOU-TINNJU KANDAMYOUJIN
The Kanda Shrine (also known as "Kanda Myoujin")was first built about 1,300 years ago at the present Otemachi in Chiyoda-ward, Tokyo.

It was moved to Kanda-dai at the beginning of the Edo period in 1603 due to an expansion program of the Edo castle, and further changed its location to the current site in 1616. The three enshrined Deities are Daikoku-sama (Ohnamuchi-no-mikoto), Ebisu-sama (Sukunahikona-no-mikoto) and Masakado-sama (Taira-no-Masakado-no-mikoto).

Kanda Myoujin was much revered by the warrior class. In particular, during the Edo period, general Tokugawa paid high respect to the shrine, which later gained popularity amongst the general public

Thus "Kanda Matsuri" or the Kanda Festival held every other year in May has come to become one of the three most renowned festivals in Japan.

The shrine is worshiped by merchants and also believed to have power to warding evils away from the historical hero and now one of a deities at the shrine, Taira-no-Masakado.

Many visitors and worshipers purchase talismans for business prosperity, charms for warding off evil spirits, or getting and keeping good health and relashionships!

Uniquely, the shrine is regarded as a venue for several animations, and many young anime lovers visit this shrine before and after spending time in Akihabara, the epicenter of Japanese Animation culture.
