This tour is a one-day trip from central Tokyo, and allows you to discover a completely different side of Tokyo that most foreign tourists are still unaware of.
This is the area upstream of the Tama and Akigawa Rivers, where people have long come and gone from the city center (called "Edo") and its development was supported by charcoal burning as fuel and forestry as building material. It will change your image of "Tokyo" in a deeper and more three-dimensional way.
It will be an unforgettable day as a fun, tasty, refreshing, and fulfilling page of your trip.
Another face of Tokyo: beautiful valleys and satoyama landscapes that have remained unchanged since ancient times.
Ride an electrically assisted bicycle and experience the natural charms of Tokyo that you may not know about on this special cycling tour led by a professional guide who knows the area inside and out.
In the Akigawa Valley area, which is easily accessible from central Tokyo, you will visit spots carefully selected by local guides in a rich natural landscape.
Stop by a temple with traditional architecture, go down to the riverside to experience the crystal clear river, and visit the most popular valley café in the area.
You will enjoy local sweets "oyaki" on the terrace overlooking the river.
And now, we embark on the highlight of this tour, the special activity "River Trekking." Wearing dedicated waterproof gear and shoes over your clothes, you will walk through the river with a guide, splashing water as you venture deeper and deeper. Your destination is a secret waterfall that can only be reached from the river. It's hard to believe this hidden gem of an adventure is in Tokyo (no need to worry about your physical fitness).
For lunch, you'll dine at a popular local restaurant that's been renovated from an abandoned school. You can choose from several menu items, such as the grilled river fish set meal unique to this region.
In the afternoon, you'll once again hop on your bike and leisurely cycle along the quiet backroads by the river, heading to the hot springs. You'll experience a foot bath at "Seoto-no-Yu," a hot spring known for its silky-smooth water quality. (Just soak your feet in the hot spring while sitting, and lose track of time as you relax.) Lastly, walk across a suspension bridge, and return to the starting point on a bus that winds through the forest.
This e-cycling tour is packed with experiences: discovering the lesser-known side of Tokyo, Japan's rich nature and seasonality, the refreshing beauty of the valley's landscape, delicious meals, and a hot spring foot bath, all in a day trip. (After the tour, participants can use the shower facilities for free.)
In the evening, you can catch a train bound for the city center, so you can be back in time for dinner in the city center.
This is a very special cycling tour in the wilderness west of Tokyo, where you can enjoy the Tokyo you never knew existed.
Our staff looks forward to your participation.
