What is it about?

Learn how Japanese people value not only their environment but also their things. Many throws away damaged items and broken pottery. However, the Japanese believe those objects have a history and a soul. So rather than throwing them away, we would repair them with lacquer mixed with gold. This is what we call Kintsugi. By repairing the broken pottery with this stunning gold dust it is repairing and also making the item even more special.

During this experience, you will wear a traditional craftsman's uniform, a 'samue'. With this experience, you can leave with a newfound appreciation for Japanese aesthetics and bring home a unique souvenir.

Who is Taku Nakano?

Taku Nakano is a unique ceramist running pottery classes at his Omotesando Studio in Tokyo, where it’s known as the epicenter of fashion. His artistic view of the world has been put into his creations, and he has made ceramics that nobody has ever seen. His atelier is filled with unique traditional crafts created by

Taku Nakano, and attracting global attention.

He has sublimated his distinct sense and techniques using rare materials, colored slips, luster, and RETSU with motifs of mysterious universes and planets into his creations. Every piece of his art has its originalities since he opposes mass production.

He has a rare personal history. Nevertheless, he isn’t either from a potter’s family or has a master of pottery. The pottery inspired him in Shizuoka, where he was transferred as an office worker and started his creative activities self-

taught. He started his life as a potter at the age of 36.

More than two thousand people, including celebrities, have supported his unlimited style, not bound by tradition, formality, flexible imagination, and established technique. He believes that social contribution through ceramics is his mission. Therefore he has been doing charity workshops to support needy children rather than doing pottery classes.

His motto: Even more beautiful and more robust than before it broke!
